It was a bit outdated but it had the right shape I was looking for and I thought it was worth the 1 hour drive in the country to go pick it up. Well, lets just say that it was a good thing that Matt was not there with me when I walked into the modest home. The cigarette smoke about knocked me over. The hutch was sure to totally stink too but I thought it would probably come out with a good cleaning. It ended up taking a couple of hours of scrubbing and scrubbing to get all of the tar out of the wood. GROSS! I also sprayed it down with a vinegar and water solution and even Frebreeze at one point. Eventually it didn't smell too bad and now after it has been painted it doesn't smell at all.
I had Eva B's do their magic and paint the hutch black, distress it and change out the hardware. It only took them a week and best of all, I didn't have to do any of the work (which made Matt very happy)! Eva B's also did a really professional looking job which looked way better than if I had tried it on my own! Check them out if you are looking to redo a piece of furniture and want it to look fabulous for a little more than doing the work yourself. The hutch turned out perfect and goes great in my kitchen. I love it and think it is just the cutest thing ever!

What vision you had, and I loved that you posted before & after pics. I would love a hutch like that!
Love it! I have a kitchen table that I might have to have redone. Thanks for the tip!
